So I totally forgot that I started this post about our patio and never posted it! So… after a long time, here it is!

Our house came with a pretty nice covered porch, which was a nice place to sit, but I had plans for a sad expanse of builder-grade grass in the backyard.  Jason and I wanted a large patio with a fire pit to the side.  After reading all the rules about building patios with wood here in Bella Vista we gave up and decided to do the whole thing in paving stones so we wouldn’t have to have a permit.  More labor, but less paperwork! Leveling the dirt was pretty quick and easy with the tractor.  We decided to use these fancy foam pads as paver underlayment to avoid having to bring in all of the gravel usually required.  They worked well and made laying the paving stones super quick and easy!

Jason also built a little retaining wall at the end of the paving stones to keep everything in place and level it all out.

All done!

Now that the patio part is done, I got started on the fire pit area!

Wall is done!
Now we get to level it out with gravel
weed barrier and more foam underlayment pads
Not as quick and easy as the other square paving stones

DONE!!

It looks nice with our patio furniture and fire pit set up!

We turned bare grass into a really nice usable space!

I added a little hydrangea
Gotta test that fire pit!
Some new chairs on the front of the house
Japanese maple and an umbrella

New trees out front!

Time to start Phase 2 of the project: landscaping around the fire pit!
