In other news, we got wheels and tires for the truck the other day but couldn’t put them on until we got the lift on the front of the suspension! I made a blog post about that already, but we got super busy and only got the wheels and tires mounted a few days ago. I think it looks pretty cool!

Gold rims with white letter tires.

Back to business…we actually got the lift mechanism for the camper roof finished! It was a pain in the ass to hold up and drill holes in.  I got my shoulder workout for the day…

straps hold it in place until the canvas is done
Jason drilling
We dont have enough straps so we used masking tape
Having some alignment issues.
There’s enough room for the mattress now!
The back tucks up nice and out of the way

A few minor issues popped up (seewhatididthere).  I need to do some touch up paint from when I was painting the roof upside down and couldn’t see.

gross looking

we also didn’t think about the gasket surface when we put on the roof stiffening and the front of those hit the aluminum on the shell. Going to have to just trim and paint and hope no one notices.

see the scuffs?

Either way, it actually looks really good and seems to be working great! The canvas is what is supposed to hold it all in place and keep it from moving around, so it’ll be a little awkward until we get that made and installed.

Total lift is around 28″. Enough to sit up in bed over the cab!
From the front
Can’t wait to see it with the canvas!
Happy me sitting in the camper!

Last order of business today was to do a little prepping for tomorrow’s busy day.  We’ve gotten to the point where we’re going to start working on the galley, so I cut some strips of scrap plywood. (again, super nice, thick marine grade plywood because we have that just laying around…)  The strips are getting epoxied to the shell so the countertop can sit on them and have a place to bolt down since I don’t have an easier way to attach things to the fiberglass shell. Should work great.  We only had room for 2 tonight, the others will get installed tomorrow.

problem solved!

As you can see in the above picture (and in multiple pictures before now..) we’re using this expandable cross bar that we got at Lowe’s for cheap that’s meant to hold cargo in place in truck beds.  We used it in our old Silverado when we camped out of that, we’ve been using the hell out of it to hold things in place on the camper.  I want to go get another one! It’s just a really usable, versatile tool!
